They are programmed with personalities at random (albeit remaining benign to their environment!) Having discovered time travel, a group of overeager scientists bought and sent AGN one century back to Singapore. Unfortunately, in their hurry, they forgot to program her to send back information on the 21st century back to them... Upon arriving in 2023, one of the first terms she heard was "Android".
