Alm is from a fantastical universe, where technology has advanced alongside magic - to create a world where civilization has achieved interplanetary travel. Yet the worlds themselves remain mostly unexplored, having only few settlements and kingdoms upon them. As most individuals prefer to live on the much safer space colonies.
Alm instead... chose to live upon one of the planets. Preferring the more natural environment.
This has led him to have to survive against many creatures, and hazards of the lands. His most demanding ordeal forced him to fight in a war against the Vampire king: "Ascelin", and his armies of night creatures, Daemons, and Dragonkin. After Ascelin had plummeted the world into a never ending twilight, by covering the sky in dark crimson clouds.
During this war, Alm served under the local Lord: "Meir" - as part of a scouting unit. Due to his experiences as a hunter, prior to the war. However, Alm was not proficient in combative magic; unlike his peers. And instead made more use out of the photon technology that the neighboring kingdom was known for developing, alongside some entry level illusion magics.
This did not - however - stop Alm from finding himself in combat situations. Where he would often find himself relying upon his blessed whip, and photonic blade.
While Alm and his unit had a fairly successful track record of success. His combat encounters didn’t always go smoothly, as one such encounter led him to temporarily become prisoner to the armies of Ascelin, after a majority of his unit was killed; and his right eye blinded by the blade of a vampire.
During the weeks of being a prisoner to the opposing faction, Alm’s luck held out. As he managed to gain the trust of a few daemons serving Ascelin. Who weren't all that pleased with how the vampire king was running his war. As the eternal twilight caused not only crops to wilt and die, but the fauna that the daemons and night creatures would often feed off of had been becoming more scarce and dying off as the lands became more and more bare.
Eventually, this led to Alm and his remaining beastfolk companions being reunited with their equipment and set free. As they and the deserting daemons fled back, to report to Meir.
After this event, Alm and company were allowed pardon from having to partake in the next battle. As their Lord was grateful enough for the information that was able to be obtained by them, during their time in the dungeons. Earning Alm the nickname “Rabbit”, due to his luck in such a situation.
In only a few months time, and a few more battles - the war had ended. The endless twilight subsiding with the disappearance of the vampire king. The castle formerly belonging to Ascelin, now claimed by Meir, and used as a foothold for a new kingdom to arise.
While not renowned as a hero of the war, or his deeds known by any outside of his company and Lord. Alm was granted a home to be built at the edge of the nearby forest, for his services - where he now resides. And serves as Meir's trusted hunter of creatures and monsters alike. His specialty being in hunting both dragonkin and vampires.
With the war now over, Alm often spends his free time staying to himself. Writing up bestiaries on the various creatures he's had to hunt, and the more monstrous foes he had slain during the war. Making not only notes on their anatomical strengths and weaknesses, but what could be made from utilizing various parts harvested from them.
He does sometimes head out of his homestead, to meet up with old allies and new friends. Often glanced at with curiosity by onlookers, for his preferences on whom to spend time with. For Alm's most common company was not just that of fellow beastfolk, but that of daemons and creatures of the night. Having learned first-hand that it’s not who one is that determines the person they are, but their actions.
Alm doesn't mind the awkward stares and glances, however. For him, the war is long over - and if not for the help of the defectors of the last war, he knows he might not still be amongst the living. All Alm cares about now is living a comfortable life, inbetwixt hunts. Show more
